When the Holechek brothers came to me and said we would like to turn your finger two dots then me poem into a short film, no new text, just the poem as is, I was skeptical. Various well meaning parties for the last decade had started on the project via green screen and it was never completed, usually due to the high costs of render time and graphic personnel. The H brothers decided to shoot it all live and add a few touches here and there to make it more like real empire strikes back special effects rather than the jar jar fake lazer feel.
I had no idea what a film festival liked or leaned towards. That world is so grossly foreign to me. The fellas went on a submission spree for late 2011 and 2012 and so far the results have been tasty. Kudos to you fellas for giving a rip and making poetry reach out to new places. It is a bad ass art form that just needs more talented collaborations like this to make it’s short arms reach farther out into the world. The coolest thing was the sweep of the Milwaukee film festival by winning
Best film,
Audience favorite
and Best Directors.
If you write poetry, imagine it beyond the page, beyond the stage, and then bust your butt to make it happen. You can do it.
