Do you think bookstores will only have www. addresses one day?! A recent article in the New York Times reminds us what stores need to be successful: quality customer relations, a comfortable, homey atmosphere and, most importantly, the support of a literary-hungry, loving community. Read this article to see how powerful the passion can be!
Derrick has updated his shows page on brownpoetry.com! CHECK IT OUT HERE
On October 16th he’ll be doing a show with Timmy Straw and Emily Wells. You’ll have to shove a stick of adrenaline into the Netherlands’ heart after they overdose with that kind of talent.
Then on October 21st he’ll be acting out the uniquely choreographed dance show with Noord Nederlandse Dans for his new book of poetry, STRANGE LIGHT. Do not miss it.
Then it’s back to the states on October 30th for “ANOTHER WORD FOR WORD” at the Bowery Poetry Club with superwoman Amber Tamblyn.
One must wonder how Derrick manages to live a normal life while constantly touring.
He doesn’t.
So support this weirdo by going to his rad shows.

Dick Richards’s new manual/tome, Workin’ Mime To Five: The Hidden Secrets of Cruise Ship Pantomimery; Revealed! is a brilliantly complete example of how silent oceanic scenario expression on paper is still silence. It’s a dissertation on how movementertainment for tourists on the open seas can be transcribed in simple, yet elegant ways without the bulk of needing a DVD player, interest, friends or electricity.

Your bookshelf feels a bit light, doesn’t it? Well turn that meek bundle of plywood into a raging body of literary brawn when you add Victor Infante’s City of Insomnia and Taylor Mali’s The Last Time As We Are to your collection.
In City of Insomnia, Infante transforms city streets, love, America’s fractured politics, his father’s death and even the language itself into labyrinths, unearthing questions about love and loss for which there are no good answers, but near endless emotional terrain to explore.

The poems contained in The Last Time As We Are prove that ‘He who dares to teach must never cease to learn.’ Taylor Mali, the author of the most forwarded poem in the world (‘What Teachers Make’), explores this truth in entertaining and plainspoken ways because ‘the last thing this world needs is another poem’ (‘The Call to What We Know’). Whether discussing the language of love or his love of language, Mali never disappoints.

If you haven’t yet explored the poetry of Laura Yes Yes or David Perez, now is the time to fall in love with these unique authors.
How to Seduce a White Boy in Ten Easy Steps will dazzle you with a bold exploration into the politics and metaphysics of identity. From fierce and funny sexual fantasies to cutting observations of interracial dynamics, Laura Yes Yes asks us to fully consider what it is to be human in an age of fragmentation and double meanings.

In Love in a Time of Robot Apocalypse, David Perez beckons us into dark corners in ways that let our eyes adjust, revealing a splendor we could have surely missed. At times, Perez is terse and pragmatic, speaking with us eye-to-eye. At others, he gives the mechanisms behind a dehumanizing vision of progress voices of their own.
