SETTING UP YOUR BOOK TO SEND TO Write Bloody Publishing or Write Bloody Printing

All manuscripts must be submitted either electronically or on cd-rom and as part of one (1) file (e.g. all chapters of BOOK and any front matter must be a part of one document) in one of these formats:

Word (.doc)
Word Perfect (.wpd)
Rich Text Format (.rft)
Microsoft Works (.wps)

Do not format your text

We will not accept manuscripts that have extensive formatting already applied to the text. (Italicized and bolded words are allowed). Please indicate in writing in brackets, what type of formatting you require at the top of the relevant text, for example:

Chapter Headings

Your chapters must be clearly defined and marked (i.e. “Chapter One”, “2”) You must use the tab character to indent all paragraphs. NEVER use the spacebar to indent.

No Spaces Between Paragraphs

Your paragraphs cannot have spaces in between them, unless the space is a line break used to indicate a transition in theme, plot, or setting. Spaces between continuous paragraphs are not permitted.

Double Spacing Only

Your manuscript must be double spaced using plain text (Times New Roman 12pt is preferred)

Submission of Pictures to Be Used in Your Book.

All picture files must be submitted separately and not be embedded into your manuscript. They must be submitted separately in email or on a cd-rom with the files clearly labeled to correspond with markers in the manuscript. Please mark in your manuscript where the picture should be inserted by using this protocol:

Permissions

It is the responsibility of the author to decide if permissions are needed, and to obtain permissions as soon as possible. Please refer to the Chicago Manual of Style for information on permissions. Write Bloody is not responsible for any delays to the production process caused by outstanding permissions.

Index

If the author requires an index, the author must indicate this when the manuscript is submitted, before the layout commences, so that we can plan accordingly. The list of terms to be indexed should be supplied with the manuscript submission. The index will be scheduled after the final approval of the interior layout. Once scheduled, indexing can take anywhere from 10 to 20 business days, and the author is responsible for being aware of the extra time this adds to the production process.

The author will be given a quote on the cost of indexing—which is based on the complexity of the manuscript, word and page count, and number of items to be indexed—and will be charged accordingly if author agrees so in writing.

Front and Back Matter

Some books contain a foreword, acknowledgments page, introduction, preface, and author biography. All of these elements should be considered as part of the manuscript itself and be submitted as such. If the author wishes to include one or more of these elements but cannot supply them when the rest of the manuscript is submitted, the author acknowledges that additional layout costs may be incurred.

If the author decides to include one or more of these elements after the book has been formatted, there will be an extra charge of $50.00 per hour to repaginate and reformat the layout.

Description of front and back matter terms:

Foreword
A foreword (and not “forward”) is optional, written by a noted figure who has a credible background relating to your subject matter. The purpose of the foreword is to help position and sell the book. If the author wishes to include a foreword, please include it when the manuscript is submitted. If the foreword is forthcoming, please indicate that and submit it as soon as possible.

Acknowledgements
Acknowledgements by the author are optional and typically appear in the front matter or back matter of the book. If you are going to have an acknowledgements page, please indicate this and include it in your manuscript. Introduction and Preface An introduction and/or preface are often helpful if there isn’t a foreword, or if the subject matter is complex and a preliminary explanation of the book is required.

Author Biography
A one or two paragraph page containing an author biography is optional, but recommended, and is commonly placed in the back matter. A brief author bio can also be included on the back cover, but should be restricted to a few concise, informative sentences. Author photo is optional.

Write Bloody has the right to refuse a manuscript submission where the above guidelines have not been applied.

If the manuscript is not submitted as set forth in this Addendum, Write Bloody shall return the manuscript to AUTHOR so that AUTHOR can format the manuscript per these guidelines. Alternately, with AUTHOR’s written permission (email optional), Write Bloody will charge AUTHOR $50.00 per hour to make the manuscript compliant with the guidelines set forth in Addendum B.
