WELCOME TO THE WRITE BLOODY BOOK PUBLISHING SUBMISSION CONTEST
Jul 1st – Jul 21, 2017 only, we are accepting submissions from talented poets who are looking to publish and do readings. Write Bloody plans to choose 2-3 poets, who will have the opportunity to publish a full-length manuscript (40+ poems) for full distribution and a 50% royalty rate. Write Bloody Publishing requires that all authors be willing and able to tour with their poetry upon publication, at least 20 readings the first year of their books release. You can do 20 readings in your home state, or hit the road as all of us do. Your book will be coming out in Fall 2018.
We ask that you please upload a Word document or PDF with no more than 5 total poems per author. Up to 8 pages total.
You will need:
1. Your 5 poems for the first round
2. If you make it to the final round, you will need a 20 poem sample of your manuscript (half of a full-length manuscript)
2. A little something about you that only the president and vp will read.
3. A receipt of a wb book purchased online, bookstore receipt photo or a photo of the book purchased from a live wb reading, show and date it was purchased from this summer 2017.
YOUR SUBMISSION PACKET:
As always, our submissions will be run through submittable.com. You will find a link to the submission page at the end of this page, but please read all this information carefully before continuing.
-Please have one poem per page. 12 point font. Times New Roman preferred.
-If a few poems take up two pages, your submission can be up to 8 pages max.
-There is a page to upload your author info, hometown, submission title, short bio, tumblr or website if you have one. Do not put that info on your manuscript.
-PDF and .doc or .docx word docs only
-Title your doc and invent a submission title: WB2017.SUBMISSIONTITLE.PDF or DOC or DOCXTIPS:
Send us the best stuff you got. Show range. Please DO NOT put your name or personal information on uploaded document as we would like to maintain a fairly blind submission process. Also, please refrain from including a set-up or any kind of explanation of your pieces in the poetry submission. Please let the poems stand alone. Keep your bio to a short paragraph please.
WHY BUY A BOOK?
We do not ask that you pay for your submissions. In order to help you get a feel for our press and to pay our 12 editors, we ask that you please order a Write Bloody book online (powells or amazon or barnes and noble, etc) or attend one of our current authors’ shows and purchase the book in May, June, or July of 2017. Please include a receipt from one of the two options to validate this. If you bought a book last year or years before, please help support us by purchasing a current book of your choice this season.
The submissions are open only July 1st through to midnight (strict) July 21st, Pacific time of 2017. No extensions allowed. By September 30th, our team of editors will read all submissions and choose finalists. From this group of finalists, we will ask for a 20-poem manuscript, and a simple video reading of an original poem to be posted on YouTube. You can use your phone. You can be creative or simple. It can be at a reading or in your living room or in a field. Have fun. The final video part of the submission process will be due 2 weeks later, or October 15th of 2017.
The chosen new authors for 2017 will be announced at the end of October 2017, for publication fall 2018. All who submit will receive an email confirming acceptance. If you do not get your email acceptance from us or submittable, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
