Wailing On Whisper Street by Bree Bailey
Wailing On Whisper Street by Bree Bailey
Wailing on Whisper Street stands as a poignant debut in the realm of poetic verse, skillfully navigating themes such as sexism, impoverished coming-of-age, working-class struggles, and the enduring impact of grief.
Through a delicate interplay of language, the collection unfolds a narrative that resonates with the complexities of human experience, exploring the multifaceted layers of societal challenges and personal tribulations. In its exploration of mental health issues, the collection becomes a beacon of awareness, breaking the silence imposed by societal norms. The poems, rooted in the determined life of a Latina mother, fearlessly confront pervasive issues of sexism and femininity.
As they explore ideas of grief and loss, the verses inspire courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Moreover, the collection pays homage to the strength and survival of a young bisexual mom.

These poems break all kinds of poetry "rules"--rules like, don't end a poem about love with "I love you." And, every time, they remind us of something deeper, something braver about how words can help us care for each other. They remind us that a Supreme Court judge is not only a tool of the patriarchy, but also--despite that--a woman, a person, and that people are all we have. They remind us that love and disillusionment, grief and gratitude, can fill us without canceling each other out. They remind us that tragedies don't look artful when you live them, but that art can save us, that art can help us save each other. I'm so grateful to have read this book.
This book of poetry left me speechless. It was so authentic and raw and clever! I cannot wait to see what Bree Bailey continues to create in the future.
Bree Bailey's incredible voice resounds like pure electricity in this stunning debut. From her use of technical form to her command of language, this collection is marvelous. She writes candidly and tenderly of grief, loss, motherhood, love in a way that brings the reader back to themselves. This book is proof positive that under the greatest pressures, diamonds are forged.
Outstanding way to express events of the authors life.
Excellent!
